Jan. 15, 2002 - Tellabs (Naperville, IL) has completed its acquisition of Ocular Networks, a move that adds three new products to augment the company's portfolio of digital cross-connect and transport switching systems.

Through the acquisition, Tellabs complements its Tellabs 5000 digital cross-connect system and 6000 transport switching series with a new Tellabs 6400 line of products targeting increased network utilization efficiency in Tier 2 and Tier 3 offices. The 6400 series helps carriers open new revenue streams from Ethernet over SONET and lower capital and operating costs.

Tellabs paid $355 million in cash and options for privately held Ocular Networks. Tellabs will retain the Reston, VA location for the development of the 6400 product line. Ocular Networks now becomes the Tellabs Metro Networking Group.
