September 18, 2002--VPIsystems has established a new business division called VPIphotonics, which will provide a focus for the company's design automation software.

VPIsystems has established a new business division called VPIphotonics, which will provide a focus for the company's design automation software.

VPIphotonics will be responsible for the continued development and marketing of VPI product lines including VPIcomponentMaker and VPItransmissionMaker, the new VPIlinkConfigurator and the VPI Design & Deployment Center. The division will also deliver VPItransportMaker software so vendors can showcase their equipment solutions in their customers' networks.

According to VPI's chief executive officer, Kay Iversen, "Current market conditions are prompting new applications of PDA software. We've established VPIphotonics to focus the substantial Photonic Design Automation (PDA) expertise and resources inside VPIsystems on the changing needs of the vendor community. To achieve this, we are expanding applications relevance from the exchange of virtual prototypes by R&D experts, to widespread use of prototypes, design rules and real world scenarios to support the deployment of optical equipment in the embedded infrastructure."

Tools from VPIphotonics help vendors complete request for proposals (RFPs) and support their marketing efforts to carriers. "By using our software and expertise vendors can focus on commercializing their products more efficiently and profitably. The new division will streamline the processes for any vendor looking to gain an edge in this intensely competitive marketplace," adds Iversen.
