April 17, 2002--ADVA Optical Networking today announced a strategic Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) distribution partnership with Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. to deliver what it claims is one of the industry's most complete, best-of-breed, and end-to-end optical networking portfolios to carriers and service providers in North America.

ADVA Optical Networking today announced a strategic Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) distribution partnership with Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., the North American telecommunications arm of Fujitsu Ltd., to deliver what it claims is one of the industry's most complete, best-of-breed, and end-to-end optical networking portfolios to carriers and service providers in North America.

Per the agreement, Fujitsu Network Communications will market, sell, support, and influence the development of ADVA's Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 500 and FSP 3000 products as members of its FLASHWAVE 7000 product family. The FSP 500 will be sold under the FLASHWAVE 7410 label, and the FSP 3000 under the FLASHWAVE 7420 label.

This strategic OEM distribution partnership joins ADVA's metro access and metro core infrastructure products with the optical transport products, carrier relationships, and sales, service, and technical support of Fujitsu Network Communications. ADVA and Fujitsu
Network Communications anticipate that this partnership will provide highly compelling and attractive network solutions for telecommunications service providers.

"We firmly believe that the market opportunity for metro core DWDM infrastructure and metro access services among North American carriers is sizable in the mid- to long-term, and therefore warrants a clear, concise, and aggressive strategy by Fujitsu Network Communications," contends Ron Martin, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Fujitsu Network Communications.

To support its focus on maximizing opportunities for metro optical networking solutions in the North American carrier market, Fujitsu Network Communications has already submitted these products for Telcordia Technologies' Operations Systems Modification of Intelligent Network Elements (OSMINE) certification--a required certification for installation into central offices of incumbent Regional Bell Operating Company (RBOC) carriers.

Fujitsu Network Communications is updating its NETSMART 1500 element management system to fully manage the FLASHWAVE 7410 and FLASHWAVE 7420 optical transport platforms. ADVA and Fujitsu Network Communications will also coordinate future product development roadmaps of these products to ensure they remain highly cost-effective, service delivery platforms.
