Tekelec, developer of telecommunication products for next-generation fixed, mobile, and packet networks, today announced further expansion of its global operations with the opening of an office in Singapore. The office will support sales and marketing activities in southeast and northeast Asia, Australasia, and India.
Teo Keng Soon, who has more than 14 years of experience in the Asia-Pacific telecommunications market, has been named managing director for the region. He most recently served as vice president of sales with Keppel Communications. Leo Hee Kit, formerly the business development manager for Nokia in Singapore, has been selected as senior sales manager. Alvin Ono, who has been with Tekelec for several years and has 15 years experience in the industry, will serve as senior solutions consultant.
"Asia continues to gain fixed and mobile subscribers with over 700 million total users in 2002," contends Christin Flynn, director, Communications Network Infrastructure, the Yankee Group. "Through 2006, we estimate a 7.6% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in basic access lines and 14.9% CAGR in mobile subscriber growth, with a healthy 64% of all revenues still derived from voice services. Tekelec's presence in Singapore will enable the company to aggressively position a robust product portfolio of signaling, application, and packet telephony solutions for the region," he adds.
"Carriers in the region are deploying extremely innovative networks to address dramatic subscriber growth," explains Fred Lax, chief operating officer, Tekelec. "With our multi-protocol, next-generation solutions, we are well positioned to support the area's established and emerging carriers in this dynamic market. We believe that our presence in Singapore, coupled with our established office in Beijing, demonstrates our commitment to customers in the region and will enable the company to capitalize on this sizeable market opportunity."
