12 November 2003 Montreal Lightwave -- CGI Group Inc., provider of information technology and business processing services, has implemented a CWDM solution from Nortel Networks for storage connectivity. The solution will enable CGI to provide a more cost-effective network to enable business continuity and mainframe extension for outsourcing customers and internal requirements.

CGI is among the first consulting and outsourcing providers to implement Nortel Networks storage solutions, expanding the number of vertical markets that can use this technology to address emerging business continuity requirements.

Based on Nortel Networks OPTera Metro 5100 Multiservice Platform, the CWDM system interconnects CGI's sites in Montreal to enable synchronous and asynchronous replication of business critical data. It delivers the 'always-on' business continuity required by CGI for mission critical applications, enabling access to computing systems at all times.

"Part of delivering exceptional service to our customers is ensuring we have leading-edge technology in place to implement a cost-effective, resilient, and scalable business continuity solution," explains Claude Besner, vice president, CGI. "Working with Nortel Networks, an industry leader in optical networking, we're confident that our customers and our consultants will have rapid access to the data they need at any time."

Nortel Networks has a suite of storage connectivity solutions to address the requirements of several enterprise customers, including those in the financial, healthcare, government, and manufacturing segments. Nortel's new focus on consulting and outsource providers builds on the experience of other enterprise customer segments to provide a tailored solution to address the unique applications and requirements of the consulting industry. Nortel Networks claims its CWDM, DWDM, SONET, and Optical Ethernet products provide a complete solution for consultants and outsource providers to support business continuity services and internal requirements.

"Industry regulations are driving opportunities for consultants and outsource providers to assist enterprise customers to deploy business continuity and disaster recovery solutions," reports Philippe Morin, general manager, Optical Networks, Nortel Networks. "CGI is an acknowledged leader in the information technology services industry. With the security, reliability and scalability of Nortel Networks CWDM solution, CGI can expand its service offerings to include innovative business continuity services."

Nortel Networks CWDM platform is designed to address the lower bandwidth requirements of medium to large enterprise customers. OPTera Metro 5000 has a set of fully certified service interfaces and can transparently transport any service type and support a variety of applications. The OPTera Metro 5000 CWDM solution allows a broader range of enterprises to leverage the benefits of CWDM in their own private networks or through a service provider's managed services offering.
