31 July 2003 Beijing Lightwave -- Lucent Technologies has won two contracts in China to provide optical networking solutions to Guangdong Eastern Fibernet Company (GEFC). Lucent's equipment will be used for the expansion of GEFC's SDH and DWDM networks in Guangdong Province.

Shanghai Tianton Telecommunciations Equipment Co., Ltd., a Lucent Business Partner, has provided pre-sales support on both projects and will deliver the equipment to GEFC.

Lucent's next-generation optical networking systems will enable GEFC to construct a reliable, high-speed network and offer its customers new services over the broadband network, say Lucent representatives.

For the project, LambdaUnite MultiService Switches (MSS) will be deployed to form the core ring of the SDH network in the cities of Guangzhou, JiangMen, and Shenzhen. This will connect the metro rings formed by the Metropolis ADM MultiService Mux (compact shelf) in Zhaoqing, Zhanjiang, Jieyang, Shantou, and Huizhou. Lucent will also deploy the WaveStar ITM-SC network management system to help GEFC smoothly integrate the new hardware into its existing SDH network. The WaveStar OLS 1.6Tand Metropolis Enhanced Optical Networking (EON) will be deployed in the major cities of Guangdong province to manage broadband traffic growth and provide high-quality data services to GEFC's customers.

Lucent Technologies has worked with GEFC since 2000 when Lucent was selected as a major vendor to participate in the construction of a DWDM and SDH backbone network in Guangdong.
