IP Networks taps LuxN for high-bandwidth services

(IPN), provider of fiber-based networking solutions in the Bay Area, has chosen LuxN's optical transport and switching product family to provide high-bandwidth connectivity for their enterprise and carrier customers in all six Bay Area counties.

(IPN), provider of fiber-based networking solutions in the Bay Area, has chosen LuxN's optical transport and switching product family to provide high-bandwidth connectivity for their enterprise and carrier customers. With its fiber network infrastructure covering all six Bay Area counties, IPN will package fiber access with LuxN WavSystem products to make bandwidth available to customers in the form of high-bandwidth native services carrying protocols such as native Ethernet, storage, and SONET with enhanced Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

According to company representatives, IPN is building over 400 sites in the Bay Area, making them one of the largest local fiber access providers besides the traditional RBOC. IPN has just completed its first installation of a multi-Gigabit direct connection between sites in Mountain View and Palo Alto. Both sites are important Internet peering centers that provide a reliable and neutral location for the exchange of Internet traffic.

LuxN's WavSystem products will form the backbone of IPN's 285-mile metro San Francisco and Silicon Valley backbone. The WavSystem comprises both transport and cross-connect equipment that integrates both coarse and dense WDM. IPN's metro backbone network will initially support 16 separate wavelengths carrying high-speed data, including OC-48 (2.5 Gbits/sec) and OC-192 (10-Gbits/sec).

"The ability to provide last mile access to more than 400 sites in the Bay Area--coupled with the E bundling of their fiber with optical transport equipment from LuxN--is what end-users have long been waiting for. With this solution, IPN is well positioned to offer transport services supporting multiple protocols over managed wavelength services in all six Bay Area counties," he adds.

LuxN's WavSystem provides IPN with a protocol-independent platform, which allows IPN to meet immediate customer needs by carrying a variety of traffic types. These services include native Ethernet, storage services such as Fibre Channel, ESCON, TDM, and SONET-based traffic such as OC-n and DS-n. With IPN services, customers will be able to change protocols as well as bandwidth on the fly, says LuxN.
