Lumen adds enriched security features to its SASE solution
Lumen Technologies has launched new enhancements to its SASE product that make the Lumen® SASE Solutions flexible and simplified for customers.
Lumen SASE Solutions allows customers an all-digital experience for the purchase, configuration and management of enterprise SASE. The new features added to Lumen SASE Solutions, which are a direct result of customer feedback, include Security Service Edge (SSE) and cloud-hosted gateways.
SSE is a collection of integrated, cloud-centric security capabilities – including cloud-hosted gateways – providing safe website access. It also includes accessing and sharing sensitive data and user permission management for software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications provided by leading SD-WAN and security partners.
Cloud-hosted gateways enable organizations to adopt "grow as they go" network and security management features without needing premise-based equipment.
The new Lumen-hosted gateways have several benefits: a dedicated node to provide nationwide enhanced security and reliability; flexible, centralized security services and reliable cloud hosting with simplified and predictable pricing; and remote access to the customer's data and cloud applications.
Additionally, Lumen has enabled business customers to deploy premise-based SASE services to locations in Canada and EMEA.
Pete Finally, research manager with IDC, said Lumen’s new SASE features will help businesses deal with the fact that the hybrid perimeter, which includes the main office down to the remote workforce, has collided with multi-cloud resources.
"Lumen is uniquely positioned to provide real business outcomes through a full-featured, cloud-delivered, network security stack which benefits directly from their presence in the network and cloud infrastructure," said Pete Finalle, research manager with IDC. “Through their digital customer experience and managed approach to solving the complex security-plus-networking dilemma, Lumen can also mitigate the deployment and management complexities that often stifle the adoption of SASE."

The SASE market is becoming a more significant component of the enterprise networking space. Consisting of SD-WAN and SSE (security service edge) solutions, the market overcame macroeconomic pressures to surpass 38 percent year-over-year (Y/Y) revenue growth in the second quarter. According to Dell’Oro Group, quarterly revenue broke through the $2 billion marker to set a record. The research firm said quarterly revenue has doubled in just ten quarters as enterprises go all in to improve networking and security services in the mobile- and cloud-first era.
