NEC Electronics names two executives

Charles Sloan has been named vice president of operations, and Paul Nahi has been appointed general manager of the multimedia business unit, both at nec Electronics Inc., Santa Clara, CA. Previously, Sloan worked at Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Signetics, General Instrument Corp., and the U.S. Air Force. Nahi most recently served as the director of marketing at Diamond Multimedia Systems Inc. and has a broad background in the PC multimedia arena. Former employers include Media Vision, Getris Images Inc., Digital Resources, and ibm.

Reynaldo "Reynie" U. Orti¥has been appointed managing director and international senior vice president at Qwest, Denver, CO. Initially, he will focus on the company`s expansion into Mexico. As a former consultant to Qwest, Orti¥negotiated with the government of Mexico and forged a deal with Bestel SA de CV to extend the company`s network into 14 major cities in Mexico. Previously, he was president and chief executive of Sophia Communications Inc. and was founder, president, and chief executive of lyncstar Integrated Communications llc. Orti¥has also held positions at Jones International Inc., US West Inc., US West Cellular Group, and International Business Machines.

David L. Hardwick has been appointed general manager of the telecommunications product group of Sturbridge, MA-based Galileo Corp. He has 37 years` experience in photonics and related technologies and most recently served as chief executive of Melles Griot Inc. Previously, he was associated with Polytec PI Inc., Lasertron Inc., Caltec Inc., Laser Analytics, Coherent Inc., and Spectra Physics. Hardwick is a member of the Optical Society of America and president-elect of the Laser Electro-Optics Manufacturing Association. He is also the director of the Laser Institute of America.

Gary M. Atkinson has been named chief financial officer at Optical Research Associates, Pasadena, CA. Previously, he was vice president of finance and administration and acting chief financial officer for Pico Products.

Paul Goldenberg has been named senior vice president of carrier services at TotalTel Inc. in Little Falls, NJ. He has six years` experience in the telecommunications industry, most recently at Cable & Wireless. Goldenberg was also associated with Sprint.
