Broadband Technologies Inc. (bbt), Research Triangle Park, NC, has signed more than $50 million worth of agreements with Lucent Technologies, Murray Hill, NJ, as part of a three-part strategy to improve its financial position. bbt`s first initiative is to leverage its research and development efforts and support product volumes through its manufacturing facilities as part of the three-year Lucent agreements. Second, the company plans to broaden its participation in global access markets through alliances with other companies and, third, the company plans to develop new products. The Lucent agreements include a development contract, an original equipment manufacturer agreement, an intellectual property license, a contract manufacturing agreement, and other considerations related to resolution of outstanding contracts. Under the development contract, bbt will develop fiber-in-the-loop and broadband components for Lucent`s AnyMedia Access System line.
