March 26, 2003--French optoelectronic component maker Alcatel Optronics has agreed to transfer some of its 180 staff at its site in Lannion, Brittany, France to Solutions Plastiques, a plastic moulding company that employs 170 people making specialised agricultural and car industry equipment and had revenue of EUR14m in 2002. Solutions Plastiques will develop jobs in plastic moulding in the Tregor area and offer 115 jobs to Lannion staff, to be accepted on a voluntary basis.
"This agreement would allow us to increase our production capacity, to integrate already-qualified employees, to accelerate our growth, to decrease our time-to-market, and to complete our product portfolio," said Philippe Jacob, chief executive officer of Solutions Plastiques.
The agreement shows "the first step of our conversion project of the Alcatel Optronics' Lannion site", said Claude Amouroux, chief executive officer of Alcatel Optronics France.
The terms of the project will be presented to employee representatives of both companies.
