More U.S. investment in FTTH over next five years than prior years combined: RVA

The next five years will see $125 billion spent in the U.S. on fiber to the home (FTTH) deployments, predicts RVA LLC. In its just released report, 2022-2026 North American Fiber Broadband Report: FTTH and 5G Review and Forecast, the market research firm says that figure is more than has been invested in the U.S. to date. Similarly, the number of fiber route miles deployed in the U.S. during the forecast period will rival that deployed in all prior years combined, RVA forecasts.

RVA believes that aggressive fiber deployments will continue well into the 2030s. Deployments in Canada and the Caribbean also will be robust, the market research firm states.

The report builds on work RVA has done for the Fiber Broadband Association, including annual surveys. RVA says the popularity of fiber, particularly for broadband derives from its ability to provide the highest bandwidth (particularly for upstream broadband applications) and reliability paired with the lowest latency versus alternatives. Fiber also provides opex benefits, according to RVA. Combined, this advantages will lead operators to deploy more FTTH networks, spurred by government funding programs.

RVA’s 2022-2026 North American Fiber Broadband Report: FTTH and 5G Review and Forecast examines consumer and competitive FTTH drivers and details the history and forecast for many different classifications of FTTH providers. Possible deployment constraining factors in the forecast period are also reviewed. In addition, the report includes a forecast for the use of fiber for 5G and other purposes. Background data is based on research and quantitative analysis involving public data and interviews with what RVA asserts are hundreds of providers, vendors, and industry experts, as well consumer surveys of more than 3,500 online users.
