OpTel Inc., Dallas, TX, and Phonoscope Ltd. of Houston, TX, have reached an agreement in which OpTel will buy Phonoscope`s residential cable-TV business and associated fiber-optic network in the Houston/Clear Lake, TX, area for $35.3 million. The transaction is expected to close by October 27, 1997. Phonoscope will continue to provide telecommunications service to businesses in Houston and will retain, expand, and increase the presence of its fiber-optic network in the commercial telecommunications market.
