KPN Belgium to be taken over by Scarlet

4 December 2002 -- Scarlet BV has agreed with KPN to take over the assets and activities of its subsidiary KPN Belgium. About 200 staff will be transferred.

4 December 2002 -- Scarlet BV has agreed with Dutch incumbent telecoms operator Royal KPN NV to take over, on 1 January 2003, the assets and activities of its subsidiary KPN Belgium, which provides telecom services to business users in the Belgian market.

About 200 staff will be transferred to Scarlet. The transaction is subject to the approval of the Belgium competition authorities.

Also, negotiations with Scarlet and other parties for the possible takeover of Planet Internet Belgium are currently being conducted.

Scarlet BV, based in Lelystad, the Netherlands, was established in 1992. It operates under the brand names Scarlet and One.Tel (Netherlands) and Netnet (Belgium) and serves over 1.2 million customers.

Both One.tel Nederland BV and Scarlet Telecom BV are Dutch subsidiaries of Scarlet BV. Both provide corporate customers and consumers with a portfolio of services, including local, national and international voice and data services, Calling Card (Home or Away Calling Card) and value-added Internet services such as broadband-IP, web and server hosting and solutions for e-commerce.
