Holoplex Technologies Inc. today announced the availability of its optical wireless communications product designed for mainstream communications applications. Developed with several Holoplex-proprietary technologies, featuring an ultra-collimated laser, and closely guarded internal specifications, the company's Enhanced Free Space Optic (EFSO) product is being launched in the US by Holoplex at Networld+Interop in Las Vegas, May 7-9.
"Holoplex's Enhanced FSO technology is an eye-opener," asserts Terry Edwards, industry analyst at research firm Engalco (York, England) and author of "The FSO Report" (www.engalco.com). "Their 30-microradian laser beam is exceptionally narrow, so that the signal available at the receiver is dramatically increased. It will be exciting to see Holoplex's innovations forging the way for this industry into true carrier class applications," he adds.
"To date, operators have adopted Free Space Optics products only over short distances," explains Dr. Fai Mok, chief executive officer of Holoplex. "For the link availability and resistance to fog required, FSO was deployable only at a range of 500 meters or less. Holoplex has seized this opportunity. By elevating the available link margin to 42 dB, which is 100 times that of today's conventional FSO products, Holoplex opens up significantly longer ranges and higher availability. With Enhanced FSO, mainstream applications are within our grasp, effectively quadrupling the addressable market," he contends.
Enhanced FSO showcases PinPoint, Holoplex's high-precision active tracking and alignment system. In addition to its primary role--the continuous automatic tracking of what the company claims is the industry's most collimated laser beam--PinPoint also reduces operating costs by enabling quick and easy alignment by a single, minimally trained technician. As a license-free and protocol agnostic product, Enhanced FSO installs into a network with negligible impact on network administration and maintenance.
Holoplex will premiere as an optical wireless manufacturer, and will unveil the Enhanced FSO product, at N+I in Las Vegas, Booth 3257 in the North Hall.
