A new company, Samara Optical Cable Company Ltd. (Samara, Russia), will begin manufacturing telecommunications cable to be sold primarily in Russia. The new company is an equity venture owned by Corning Inc. (Corning, NY), which will provide optical fiber, and Samara Cable Co. (Samara, Russia). Driven by an expanding economy and market deregulation, the telecommunications market in Russia is expected to grow rapidly through the turn of the century, according to Corning officials.
