Metromedia Fiber Network Inc. (mfn), New York City, has joined Racal Telecom, UK, in a venture to provide broadband transatlantic communications services to their respective customers. mfn offers fiber-based building-to-building connectivity, high-bandwidth capacity at wholesale prices, and bulk traffic capacity and services to the transatlantic market. The initial service offering is expected to be available in April and will include fiber-optic, international leased lines with a capacity range of 2 to 45 Mbits/sec. During the year, the companies expect to expand services to include transatlantic local area network interconnection, videoconferencing, secure voice recording, international voiceconferencing, and atm-derived switching.
