8 July 2003 Swindon UK/Altdorf Germany--Dätwyler Cables & Systems has launched Optofil Easyblow, a range of flame-resistant fibre optic cables for outdoor, tunnel and long distance cabling.
The new cables, available with a minimum of 12 and maximum of 144 fibres can be blown through ducts up to a distance of more than 2000-m, thanks to their improved design.
The company says this is "three to four times better than any comparable product currently on the market". This leads to shorter laying times and reduces the need to close motorways, road and railway lines, producing cost savings for cabling projects.
The Optofil Easyblow cables have a very stiff FR/LSOH coating, the smooth, hard surface of which provides for a low friction coefficient.
Due to their improved design, they have a high crush resistance, helping to make them easy to lay with minimal risk of damage. These properties enable the cables to glide very easily in a straight-line in the duct.
The low friction coefficient of the new cables sets them apart from flame-resistant fibre optic cables for internal and LAN-connection use, which have softer coatings and cannot be installed in the same way.
The cables meet the most stringent requirements demanded on the market today, causing minimal smoke, being completely halogen-free, and preventing rapid fire spread through their self-extinguishing properties.
