Tektronix introduces 40- and 50-GHz modules

Mar. 5, 2001--Tektronix, Inc. announced what the company claims to be the industry's first solutions for testing 40 Gb/s optical networks.

Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a provider of test and measurement equipment for telecommunications component and equipment manufacturers, announced what the company claims to be the industry's first solutions for testing 40 Gb/s optical networks - test tools critical to the development of next-wave optical communications infrastructures.

The 40- and 50-GHz modules (the 80C05 and 80C06) expand the power of Tektronix' CSA8000 Communications Signal Analyzer to enable the design and manufacturing of optical networking components based upon emerging OC-768 and STM-256 standards.

The growth of the Internet and the resulting demand for additional bandwidth has defined the need for 40 Gb/s data rate over optical networks. According to telecom market research firm RHK Inc., the worldwide market for optical components will grow from $5 billion in 2000 to nearly $24 billion by 2004.
