LuxPath Networks, a start-up division of Applied Innovation (NASDAQ: AINN), and CoSine Communications (NASDAQ: COSN), Foundry Networks (NASDAQ: FDRY) and Stratacache have created a solution for the delivery of optical broadband gigabit Ethernet services to metro area networks.

Under the newly announced "MetroSolution Partners," the solution was demonstrated at this week's NFOEC in Baltimore in booth 3214.

"For service providers to be profitable, they need to provide multiple services in a package," said Jack Ray, Director of New Business Development for Applied Innovation.

The MetroSolution Partners combine products that integrate the technology to offer one interoperability solution. The alliance enables service providers to offer a full range of bundled services over a single network, including SAN, ASP, web hosting, web-caching Gigabit Internet services, video-conferencing and video-on-demand. Packaging all of these services in a single solution allows an efficient and inclusive package of services served up and managed locally on the network.

"The combination of optical Ethernet technology demonstrated by the MetroSolution Partners' product offerings will break the metro bottleneck, enabling rapid, cost-effective introduction of Gigabit Ethernet services in the MAN," said Ron Kline, Senior Transport Analyst with RHK, Inc.

LuxPath Networks' LuxConnect provides last-mile Gigabit Ethernet transport from the metro optical ring to corporate campuses, office parks and MDU/MTU environments. The architecture multiplexes eight one-Gigabit Ethernet channels from a Foundry BigIron Layer 3 switch onto a single fiber pair utilizing a single wavelength, with carrier-grade quality. LuxConnect was introduced at last year's NFOEC and will be in full production later this month.

CoSine Communications' solution includes the IPSX family of service provisioning switches, carrier-class products that combine scalable computing, switching and routing hardware with an open architecture operating system and application software.

Foundry's BigIron Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet switch provides non-blocking switching architecture, modular wirespeed IP routing, scalability and reliability.

Stratacache's Metroliner Series Appliance is designed for high performance, fault tolerant, content acceleration and content networking for major data exchange points in distributed service provider, corporate or carrier networks.

By combining the strengths of the companies in the MetroSolution Partners program, LuxPath is focused on interoperability with network vendors seeking to offer customers 10 Gig technology. Currently, the company sees its greatest market exposure in the Pacific Rim.
