Alloptic selects SwitchCore to build high-density optical network units
SwitchCore AB (publ), developers of integrated switching devices for data and Internet communications, announced that Alloptic, Inc., a provider of IP, Gigabit Ethernet fiber optic solutions for access networks, has selected SwitchCore's CXE family of integrated switches/routers to build their high-port density optical network units.
Alloptic's solution provides IP/Ethernet point-to-multipoint network and point-to-point high-speed local access. Compared to incumbent asynchronous transfer mode technology, Ethernet provides a much more cost-effective solution with significantly greater operational efficiency. When combined with the Quality of Service (QOS) features available with SwitchCore's CXE architecture, Ethernet provides the enhanced features and services that service providers need to differentiate themselves.
According to Infonetics Research, the market for metro area networking equipment, including the edge and last mile equipment market will reach $17.2 billion in 2003 in North America, showing 175 percent growth over the year 2000.
