Uniphase Corp., San Jose, CA, expands into the telecommunications electro-optics market with the purchase of United Technologies Photonics Inc. for $8.05 million. UTP is a global supplier of integrated optical components used in transmitters for fiber-based networks in the cable-TV and telecommunications industries. The company will operate as a Uniphase subsidiary and will remain in Bloomfield, CT, under its current management team.
