3S PHOTONICS to scale production of Mini-DIL uncooled pump laser modules

DECEMBER 1, 2008 -- 3S PHOTONICS says it has increased its production capacity of terrestrial Mini-DIL uncooled pump laser modules to support the growing demand of its customers. According to the company, its new 1999 PLU Series 980-nm uncooled pumps have already been qualified by many customers worldwide.

DECEMBER 1, 2008 -- 3S PHOTONICS (search for 3S Photonics) says it has increased its production capacity of terrestrial Mini-DIL uncooled pump laser modules to support the growing demand of its customers. According to the company, its new 1999 PLU Series 980-nm uncooled pumps have already been qualified by many customers worldwide.

The 1999 PLU pump module operates without any thermoelectric cooler. This uncooled operating condition drastically reduces both the overall power consumption and the power dissipation of the pump laser module, say 3S representatives. It uses a very compact Mini-DIL package--footprint of 7- x 13-mm, height of 5.1-mm maximum-- enabling a small form factor. In addition, it can operate over the widest temperature range currently available on the market (â��5C ° to +75 ° C), claims the company.
 
The 1999 PLU provides operating power up to 250mW at +75 ° C. 3S PHOTONICS says the pump's unparalleled behavior over such a wide temperature range comes from the use of its proprietary chip, which was introduced more than a year ago and is already in mass production. The module's specific design provides excellent power stability coupled to a very wide dynamic range, add company representatives.
  
The 3S PHOTONICS' 980-nm uncooled Mini-DIL pump module features a low FIT rate, ensuring a high level of reliability. The module has been fully qualified in accordance to Telcordia GR-468-CORE specifications. The wavelength is "locked" using an external Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) located in a Polarization Maintaining Fiber (PMF) pigtail.
 
This coolerless pump is designed for single channel fiber amplifiers deployed in high-speed optical telecommunication networks. Mini-DIL pump lasers allow a significant reduction in size and power consumption when designing highly reliable EDFAs for metropolitan applications and can be used in conjunction with high power cooled pump laser modules.
