Brasil Telecom GlobeNet selects Nokia Siemens for North American expansion
FEBRUARY 27, 2008 -- Brasil Telecom GlobeNet (search for Brasil Telecom GlobeNet) will strengthen its North American product strategy, expanding its solutions capacity and strengthening security with an optical platform from Nokia Siemens Networks (search for Nokia Siemens Networks). Brasil Telecom GlobeNet is an international carrier's carrier, with U.S. headquarters in Boca Raton, FL, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Brasil Telecom, headquartered in Brasilia, Brazil.
Nokia Siemens Networks' deployment of the SURPASS hiT 7300 DWDM platform provides Brasil Telecom GlobeNet with a scalable transport backbone that accommodates the high traffic volumes required by its Tier 1 carrier customers and supports leading-edge reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing (ROADM) technology.
"We are actively working to expand and strengthen our solutions portfolio and value proposition for the U.S. markets. A reliable, high-capacity network from a vendor who understands the importance of rapid deployment is the cornerstone of that commercial strategy," says Beatriz Pedrosa, director of marketing, Brasil Telecom GlobeNet. "We are confident that this first step puts us on a trajectory to exceed our commercial objectives including market expansion."
Nokia Siemens Networks has already begun deployment of the multihaul DWDM platform. When the first phase of the build-out is complete, south Florida will be linked to Brasil Telecom GlobeNet's underwater fiber-optic network, which currently connects the east coast of the United States, Bermuda, Brazil, and Venezuela. This will position Brasil Telecom GlobeNet to strengthen its presence in the North America market, the carrier says.
