Adesta completes optical link segment for North-Link

FEBRUARY 4, 2008 -- Adesta LLC, a systems integrator and project management company, says it has completed the first segment and received a notice from Northern Enterprises Inc. to proceed on the second segment of what will be a 400-mile open access fiber-optic network in northern Vermont. The network, North-Link, is designed to provide this rural region with a backbone for high-speed Internet access. The segment provides a fiber backbone network for Franklin, Grand Isle, Orleans, Essex, Caledonia, and Orleans counties, which are the Economic Development Council of Northern Vermont (EDCNV) District, as well as the counties of Chittenden and Washington.

North-Link will support open access for leasing to ISPs and wireless ISPs. Users of the backbone can lease low-cost access while building their market and customer base. Potential customers include existing and future CLECs and ISPs, businesses that want their own communications network, governmental agencies, and existing incumbent carriers and cable television companies who desire expanded or improved network coverage networks. Customers will benefit from competition as competitive carriers and ISPs enter the market without the prohibitive capital expense of building the infrastructure, Northern Enterprises believes. In addition, North-Link will provide a global competitive economy for health care, education, government, non-profit organizations, and businesses.
