SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 -- ECI Telecom has unveiled new features and enhancements to its Hi-FOCuS Multi-Service Access Node (MSAN) to enable open-access GPONs.
ECI describes the upgrades as “an elegant solution” for network operators and resellers who are ready to migrate to FTTX technology and need the flexibility to unbundle their GPONs. As governments and regulators accelerate their initiatives to offer high-speed broadband to both more and less densely populated areas, ECI says the new MSAN features enable providers and municipalities to open their FTTX networks to all market players, reducing risk and getting faster return on investment once market conditions dictate this approach.
According to ECI, benefits of the enhancements include:
- Flexibility to open the access FTTX network, when and if business or regulatory requirements mandate it, without any additional costs or increasing network complexity
- Support for multiple telecom providers through the same fiber loop
- Ability to monetize each customers’ individual and evolving bandwidth needs
- Seamless evolution for carriers worldwide
