March 14, 2006 Spartanburg, SC -- AFL Telecommunications has announced the opening of an R&D center based in Spartanburg. A joint initiative of AFL and parent company Fujikura Ltd. of Japan, the center will be charged with developing and investigating fiber-optic products and technologies geared toward meeting U.S. market demands. In its research the center will also collaborate with local universities, says AFL.
"Building on the strength of Fujikura technologies, the new R&D center will be a critical element for growth for AFL Telecommunications, combining technologies to create solutions to many different applications for our customers," comments Jody Gallagher, president of AFL Telecommunications. "We're excited about this investment and commitment as it will lead us into a promising future."
The company expects the facility, which opens next month, to further its advancement within the fiber-optic industry.
