August 14, 2006 Redwood City, CA -- In a newly released report, Dell'Oro Group forecasts the worldwide optical transport equipment market to continue growing-- albeit at slower rates. According to the report, the optical transport market will reach almost $10 billion from 2008 to 2010, with varying growth patterns of regional markets contributing to the overall market performance.

"The Optical market recorded exceptional growth last year as all regions of the world performed well, but we expect less consistent regional performance over the coming years," explains Shin Umeda, principal analyst for optical transport research at Dell'Oro Group. "For example, in 2006, the North American market is on track for double-digit growth as service providers continue network projects to deliver high-speed broadband services. On the other hand, the European region will see substantially less growth as service providers have already completed many of their projects," he adds.

The Dell'Oro Group's "5-Year Forecast Report" offers an overview of the optical transport industry, including DWDM long-haul terrestrial, WDM metro, SONET/SDH ADM, SONET/SDH multiservice, and optical switch equipment. For more information, visit www.DellOro.com.
