AUGUST 14, 2007 -- According to a newly published report by Dell'Oro Group (search for Dell'Oro), competition in the worldwide service provider edge router market intensified in the second quarter of 2007. The report highlights the shifts in market share rankings in the fastest growing segment of the worldwide router market.
According to the report, Cisco maintained the number one ranking for the edge router market, while Alcatel-Lucent moved past Juniper into the number two position, and Huawei slipped past Redback to claim the number four spot.
"This was the first time in two years that the ranking of the top five edge router vendors has changed," said Shin Umeda, vice president at Dell'Oro Group. "We attribute this shift to the red-hot demand for edge routers, which is giving manufacturers opportunities to win new business with innovative products and solutions."
All of the top five vendors experienced year-on-year growth, except Redback. Huawei's revenues jumped 95%, while Alcatel-Lucent's increased 85%. Redback's revenues declined 3%, according to Dell'Oro.
