Indonesian energy company selects Alcatel-Lucent's microwave, optical equipment

DECEMBER 6, 2007 -- Total E & P Indonesie will use Alcatel-Lucent's optical and microwave equipment to expand its existing backbone and capillary networks, ensuring that all sites have access to vital business applications and data.

DECEMBER 6, 2007 -- Alcatel-Lucent (search for Alcatel-Lucent) has secured a contract from Total E & P Indonesie, the Indonesian subsidiary of Paris-based Total Group, to deploy microwave radio transmission equipment, optical networking equipment, and a network management system to expand and enhance the energy company's mission-critical communications network.

The deployment will take place at Total E & P's operational and gas processing facilities on East Kalimantan, an island located northeast of Jakarta, Indonesia's capital. Once in place, the network will provide Total E&P Indonesie business and operations locations with dramatically increased network capacity and help ensure a greater degree of network reliability, say Alcatel-Lucent representatives.

Alcatel-Lucent will supply its 9600 LSY, an SDH wireless technology, as well as its Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSN) to enhance communications exchanges between sites for optimizing service delivery. Total E & P Indonesie will use Alcatel-Lucent's optical and microwave equipment to expand its existing backbone and capillary networks, ensuring that all sites have access to vital business applications and data.

The new, expanded network has additional network elements that can serve as backups to minimize the impact of potential outages or failures at specific nodes, says Alcatel-Lucent. The offering also includes a web-based network management interface that enables more accurate monitoring of network migration and rapid identification and resolution of network faults. These features will help Total E & P Indonesie ensure the continuous operation of its systems.

Total has been building its telecommunications infrastructure in Indonesia since 1999 and previously selected Alcatel-Lucent to provide key elements of that infrastructure, such as microwave radio equipment and optical networking infrastructures to connect key sites.
