OCTOBER 15, 2007 -- Transmode (search for Transmode) and Overture Networks (search for Overture Networks) have entered into a strategic business partnership that will enable them to jointly provide enhanced offerings for existing and prospective customers through the deployment of combined metro optical plus multi-service Ethernet access equipment. This, in turn, will strengthen both companies' positions in the rapidly growing converged Ethernet-over-optical market, they say.
"With the rapid migration to an Ethernet-over-optical world, products that bring together the best from the Ethernet edge and the optical transport worlds are becoming increasingly important," notes Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. "Service providers want high levels of functionality and quality, while simultaneously demanding the right price/performance ratio. Transmode and Overture Networks are well positioned in both these markets, so this partnership has the potential to bring interesting solutions to the market."
Both companies say they see great potential in bringing both best-of-breed vendors together for applicable marketing and sales opportunities. Both companies report customer bases that cover the US and Europe, and they have already deployed a joint offering in Irish ISP Digiweb.
"Transmode is well established in the optical networking space with more than 150 customers in the telecom, cable, ISP, and enterprise markets," contends Jeff Reedy, CEO and president of Overture Networks. "This is an exciting opportunity for us to work together to meet the growing demand for Ethernet optical and edge solutions from those customers and to expand the reach of those solutions to new customers around the globe."
"With the rapid expansion of advanced Ethernet-over-optical services, I am delighted to be announcing this partnership today," adds Karl Thedéen, Transmode's CEO. "Overture Networks has a fantastic team, a great product line, and a very strong track record in multi-service access. These strengths, combined with Transmode's leadership in metro and regional optical networking, will allow us to jointly enhance our solutions and market position."
