September 9, 2004 Budapest, Hungary -- LaserBit Communications Corp. today announced the newest product in its Pico family of short-distance, high-speed, cost-effective free space optical (FSO) solutions. FSO solutions offer a wireless point-to-point link between two sites and are often used where it is difficult or expensive to deploy fiber cables. They are license-free, offer high bandwidth, and suffer from no interference problems, claim company representatives.

The PicoPlus has all the ease-of-installation benefits of the Pico II but is enhanced by a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) feature, which eliminates the need for separate power cabling by delivering the power using the UTP data cable. The PicoPlus can be connected to any PoE-compliant network or any standard Ethernet port through a PoE injector device.

PicoPlus provides wire speed and full-duplex Fast Ethernet laser-based wireless connectivity up to 200 m. The brand new transmitter optical system makes the product Class 1M compliant without compromise on the performance, say LaserBit representatives.

Like the Pico II, the PicoPlus can also be ordered in a management ready version, which is enhanced with LaserBit's LBView and allows remote control and monitoring of the equipment through a standard web browser or SNMP manager. It can also be used alongside LaserBit's proprietary BitView GUI Interface.

Typically, a PicoPlus will be used to replace lease lines or radio links, interconnecting LANs in campus or industrial situations. Often used to enable high-bandwidth connections to the Internet, it is also ideal for VoIP applications. And because it is quick and easy to deploy, it is perfectly suited for temporary or emergency installations.

PicoPlus includes two laser heads--one at each end. Factory optical settings means there is no configuration needed on site; simply line up the two laser heads. The brand new transmitter optical system makes the product Class 1M compliant without compromise on the weather performance. The laser heads provide direct connectivity for network devices with 100Base TX interfaces and can therefore be easily and cost-effectively integrated into any LAN environment, contends the company.

E. Walter Koenig III, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LaserBit Corporation commented: "LaserBit's launch of the PicoPlus product is further proof of our commitment to bring the best price/performance FSO solutions to the marketplace," asserts E. Walter Koenig III, chairman and chief executive officer of LaserBit Corp. "Adding the PoE feature to our Pico product allows even greater flexibility to the customer, making our PicoPlus solution the simplest in the market to install today."
