InterAmericas Communications Corp. (icca) of Miami, FL, has signed a purchase agreement to acquire Iusatel, a long- distance carrier based in Santiago, Chile. Iusatel has provided national and international long-distance services in Chile through its own international gateway switch and satellite earth station as well as through interconnection with other Chilean long-distance carriers. According to icca chief financial officer Douglas Geib II, the company agreed to pay up to $7.25 million for Iusatel, $2 million of which is contingent upon Iusatel`s achieving certain earnings thresholds. icca currently runs a 120-km digital fiber-optic network in Santiago and a similar 50-km network in Lima, Peru.
