Cable & Wireless (London) agreed to acquire mci?s (Washington, DC) U.S. Internet communications

Cable & Wireless (London) agreed to acquire mci?s (Washington, DC) U.S. Internet communications business for $1.75 billion in cash. The assets became available from mci on short notice in order to expedite the mci/WorldCom merger and include a substantial corporate customer base. The business and approximately 1000 specialist employees will be transferred from mci and integrated with Cable & Wireless?s existing operations in the U.S. and international networks.
