alltel(Little Rock, AR) announced a definitive merger agreement with Standard Group Inc. (Cornelia, GA), a communications company whose subsidiaries offer a variety of services in northeast Georgia. The transaction adds approximately 68,000 customer telephone lines to alltel`s Georgia operations. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The deal is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 1998.
