ixc Communications Inc. (Austin, TX) announced a major fiber swap with a leading interexchange carrier whose identity ixc declined to reveal. The agreement will allow ixc to acquire approximately 280 mi of dark fiber between New York City and Boston, in exchange for dark fiber on a 270-mi segment between Houston, Dallas, and Ft. Worth, TX. ixc is constructing a nationwide fiber-optic network designed to span more than 20,000 route-mi.
