3 October 2003 Utica, NY Lightwave -- NetTest has announced another testing application for its CMA 5000 Multi-Layer Network Test Platform; the device now offers the highest dynamic range tri-wavelength OTDR module in the industry, says the company. The new application is designed to provide carriers, network installers, and operators with improved data quality, reduced testing time, and the ability to characterize spans over 220 km. Other features include superior trace linearity, which provides accurate data for the entire fiber, and up to 256,000 data points for unparalleled trace resolution, say company representatives.

Recognizing the need to develop solutions to meet the demands of ultra long-haul and metro networks that span the O-, C- and L- bands, NetTest's 1310-/1550-/1625-nm module achieves a minimum dynamic range of 43/45/43 dB out of a single optical port using the SNR=1 formula. This ultra high dynamic range allows long haul providers to reduce time and equipment costs through its ability to test fibers from 100 m to over 220 km quickly and completely from the same module. The additional range also provides cost savings from standard range OTDR modules since less time is spent on averaging to acquire data.

"NetTest is very excited to be able to provide its customers with another solution to reduce costs while improving efficiency with this latest addition to the CMA 5000 platform," adds Ron Aharoni, director of marketing.
