Zayo Group, LLC continues its expansion by acquisition strategy with the announcement that it has purchased the assets of Midwestern-based dark fiber provider FiberLink, LLC. FiberLink’s fiber-optic network between Chicago and Denver sparked the acquisition, Zayo says. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, although Zayo did reveal it drew funds from its previously undrawn $250 million revolving credit facility to help fund the transaction.

The addition of FiberLink’s primary route adds more than 1200 route miles of fiber running from downtown Chicago through Des Moines and Omaha to downtown Denver. The new assets bring to approximately 26,000 the amount of route miles of dark fiber with associated colocation and technical support services Zayo can offer.

“FiberLink’s assets strengthen our ability to provide a broad range of end-to-end solutions to our customers,” says Matt Erickson, president of Zayo’s fiber, transport and infrastructure division. “Des Moines is a growing data center market that will now have greater access to Zayo’s network footprint.”

Zayo says that it expects to offer services on the newly acquired infrastructure immediately, thanks to FiberLink’s dark fiber business model.
