British Telecom selects Acterna to supply optical testers

May 1, 2001
Apr. 30, 2001--Acterna announced that British Telecom has selected Acterna as its preferred supplier of optical testers.

Acterna (NASDAQ: ACTR) announced that British Telecom has selected Acterna as its preferred supplier of optical testers. The three-year contract to supply BT with OTDRs, software and attentuators was awarded on the basis of Acterna's portable MTS field tester.

Following comparative trials, BT chose the MTS OTDR because of its features and functions such as traffic detection, fault location mode, which are included as standard on the MTS.

Acterna OTDRs will be used by operations and maintenance teams throughout the BT network in testing and commissioning optical fibre cables prior to systems going live.

In addition to the testers, Acterna will supply the teams with its WinCable PC software which automates the analysis, presentation and storage of large amounts of fiber-optic cable test data, saving significant amounts of post-processing time.

The MTS OTDR was designed for fiber network installation and maintenance, with 128,000 data points and a data acquisition rate of up to ten sweep scans per second. The universal test platform has two instrument slots, for which a wide range of OTDR plug-in test modules is available, including short-haul (SR), medium-haul (DR), long-haul (VHD), very long-haul and1625nm test units.
