EXFO launches next-generation field-testing platform

May 30, 2001
May 29, 2001--According to EXFO, their new Universal Test System represents the first modular platform that can perform all the essential physical layer tests for long-haul, metro and access networks.

EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSE: EXF) launched the FTB-400 Universal Test System (UTS) for the installation and maintenance of optical networks. According to the company, the new FTB-400 UTS represents the first modular platform that can perform all the essential physical layer tests for long-haul, metro and access networks.

The FTB-400 UTS is available in a two-slot configuration for basic OTDR and optical loss testing, or a seven-slot configuration for high-end DWDM testing, PMD characterization, high fiber-count testing as well as OTDR and optical loss testing. It supports test modules used with EXFO's first-generation platform, FTB-300 UTS. A key advantage of this second-generation platform is that it allows simultaneous acquisitions in the field.

This latest development has been made possible through an upgrade to proven software and hardware solutions such as the Windows 2000 operating system and Pentium processor. In addition, EXFO's graphical user interface helps technicians improve productivity in the field.

The FTB-400 UTS will be showcased at SuperComm 2001 from June 3-7 in Atlanta.
