MFS Communications Co. Inc., Omaha, NB, has acquired Virginia Metrotel in exchange for common stock valued at approximately $5.9 million. Virginia Metrotel Inc.`s fiber-optic network, based in Richmond, extends 25 route miles and connects 35 buildings in the downtown business district, as well as in the counties of Chesterfield and Henrico. MFS Communications is also acquiring the assets of Northeast Networks Inc., White Plains, NY, whose fiber network serves businesses throughout Westchester County.
