Business acquisition

Chicago-based General Instrument Corp. is purchasing Next Level Communications, Rohnert Park, CA, which will expand General Instrument`s offerings to include fiber-to-the-curb technology. As part of the acquisition, General Instrument will incorporate into its current product line Next Level Communications` broadband access system, NLevel3. The net purchase price for the acquisition is approximately $85 million. Next Level will operate independently as a wholly owned subsidiary of General Instrument.
