    Augat Inc. in Mansfield, MA, is acquiring the fiber optics business of Porta Systems Corp., Syosset, NY, for approximately $8 million. The acquisition includes fiber-optic products and technologies--optical couplers, attenuators, fiber distribution equipment, cable assemblies and connectors--of the company`s Aster and Porter business units. The fiber optics business will become part of Augat`s Communications Products Division.
