ZTE describes single-channel 10 Tbps experiment

March 24, 2011
In a post-deadline paper at OFC/NFOEC March 10, researchers at ZTE Corp. (H share stock code: 0763.HK/A share stock code: 000063.SZ) reported that they were able to transmit 10 Tbps in a single channel across 640 km of standard singlemode fiber. This is the fastest reported single-channel transmission, the company asserts.

In a post-deadline paper at OFC/NFOEC March 10, researchers at ZTE Corp. This is the fastest reported single-channel transmission, the company asserts.

ZTE used its patented version of optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), called "carrier generation technology," to generate 112 coherent, frequency-locked optical subcarriers. Each subcarrier transported a 100-Gbps optical signals, for a total rate of 11.2 Tbps – enough capacity to transmit a net 10 Tbps of data as well as overhead such as forward error correction (FEC).

ZTE also was proud of the fact that they were the only Chinese company to present a post-deadline paper at this year’s OFC/NFOEC.

"With OFC's acknowledgement of our research result in 100G and beyond-100G technology, we will go on to invest further efforts in high-speed optical transmission and apply further research results in the pending 100G global deployment," said Fan Xiaobing, general manager of ZTE's bearer network product line.
