Equinix expands ECX Fabric reach in Europe

The ECX Fabric is a global interconnection service that Equinix offers in 45 markets in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific to enable hybrid multicloud deployments.

Equinix, Inc. (NASDAQ: EQIX) says it is expanding access to its Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric (ECX Fabric) in seven new Europe/Middle East/Asia (EMEA) markets. The markets are Barcelona, Brussels, Geneva, Istanbul, Lisbon, Sofia, and Hamburg, with the last coming onboard in the second quarter of this year.

The ECX Fabric is a global interconnection service that Equinix offers in 45 markets in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific to enable hybrid multicloud deployments (see "Equinix to connect IBX global data centers via Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric"). It is designed to help businesses exchange data on demand and between metros through private connections. Potential users include enterprises, network services providers, and cloud providers. The ECX Fabric is an integral part of the company’s Platform Equinix, a data center and interconnection platform.

By extending ECX Fabric from Lisbon in the West to Istanbul in the East, and offering a globally consistent interconnection service across each of our 45 ECX Fabric-enabled markets, we can help enterprises seamlessly connect to the clouds, networks, partners and rich ecosystems that matter most to their businesses."

This expansion is timely given the increased demand for interconnection as a result of shifting network patterns and the spike in network usage from some segments, due to the impact of COVID-19 quarantine policies."
