Bluebird Network founds SpringIX internet exchange in Springfield, MO

The exchange, hosted in the Bluebird Underground Data Center, was founded in partnership with the Kansas City Internet Exchange (KCiX).

Bluebird Network says it has opened the Springfield Internet Exchange (SpringIX) in Springfield, MO. The exchange, hosted in the Bluebird Underground Data Center (see "Bluebird Network adds 4,700 square feet of white space to underground data center"), was founded in partnership with the Kansas City Internet Exchange (KCiX).

SpringIX will enable networks to interconnect directly, and therefore less expensively, rather than that having to work through third-party networks. Use of the exchange also will promote route optimization, according to the partners.

“There are many advantages to being part of an internet exchange,” explained Aaron Wendel, executive director of the KCiX. “Peers share traffic, reducing latency and reducing their usage of bandwidth by offloading traffic locally. It’s really a great way to make internet services stronger in a given metro area.

“Members of this internet exchange will have free access to content from other members of the SpringIX as well as the KCiX customers in Kansas City,” Wendel added. “It’s quite an opportunity to connect to and share those kinds of eyeballs with your network.”
