Internet infrastructure provider Deep Edge Realty says it has bought a carrier hotel located at 340 Cumberland Avenue, Portland, ME. The price the company paid to the previous owner, Maine’s Northland Enterprises, was not disclosed.
The facility is an eight-story, 52,272-square-foot Class B building that currently serves such tenants as Verizon, GWI, First Light, and Spectrum, according to Mainebiz. It will join facilities in Charlotte, NC, and Reno, NV, in Deep Edge’s portfolio.
The new owner, based in Boston, plans on “optimizing the internet capabilities” at 340 Cumberland, which Deep Edge says will bring additional content, data, and cloud services closer to users while lower costs and improving latency and resiliency.
“We see an opportunity to build on the area’s existing infrastructure by attracting new and current market participants to bolster the region’s capabilities. We’re excited to bring our Internet infrastructure capabilities to Maine,” commented Martin Hannigan, Deep Edge founder and CEO.
“This is a perfect synthesis of opportunity and capability,” added Northland’s CEO Josh Benthien. “340 Cumberland already has several carriers on-site that contribute to its status as the premier interconnection hub of Maine.” Northland will partner with Deep Edge to provide property management services.
