JUNE 10, 2008 -- iamba Networks (search for iamba Networks) and Wintegra Inc. (search for Wintegra), provider of silicon and software for Broadband Access Aggregation equipment, today announced collaboration on the development of a GPON (search for GPON) offering for Multiple Dwelling Units (MDUs).
Iamba says its iSN1000D GPON SoC will be tightly integrated with Wintegra's WinArrow2 product family, creating a high-end offering for GPON MDU applications for VDSL2 end users. Standardized by ITU, VDSL2 has been designed to provide operators and carriers the flexibility to upgrade existing DSL infrastructure while supporting the deployment of triple-play services. The MDU market in 2010 is going to be 15% of the total ONU ports deployed that year, serving a very large number of GPON subscribers who live in large apartment buildings around the globe, according to Infonetics Research.
The companies say their joint offering provides superior QoS on both the downstream and upstream, full compliance with the DSL Forum technical spec, WT-156 and full programmability and future proofing through the Wintegra WinArrow2 NPU architecture. Additional benefits of the jointly developed product include covering a range of port densities from as few as eight ports and up to 48 ports; WinArrow's software offering, including an extensive set of data path and control path stacks; and iamba's end-to-end GPON software offering, including OMCI management stack
"iamba's products are optimized for various markets, and we believe there is a market need for a solution that provides flexibility that the operators require while also delivering the service customers demand," explains John Mein, vice president of sales and marketing for iamba Networks. "A jointly develop product from iamba and Wintegra enables us to deliver a solution that address the needs of both."
"Wintegra products are already shipping in PON networks today, supporting feature-rich QoS functions," adds Fabian Trumper, PON marketing manager at Wintegra. "Integrating our WinArrow2 network processor in this MDU GPON solution provides our customers a fully verified system solution with full interoperability for rapid deployment."
The iamba and Wintegra joint offering is currently being implemented by customers of both companies, and general availability is scheduled for the end of Q3'08.
