JULY 1, 2008 -- Enablence Technologies (search for Enablence) has announced a pair of wins for the Trident7 Universal Access Platform, part of the Wave7 Optics acquisition. The first involves a deployment with Servei de Telecommunications d'Andorra (STA), the second with the Taiwan Optical Platform Group (TOP) to provide fiber-to-the-business (FTTB) in central Taiwan.

STA began formal full-scale production deployment of its new all-fiber network with production customers on May 5, 2008. The network which, provides triple-play data, IPTV, and VoIP services, will ultimately provide advanced IP services to more than 45,000 residential and business customers throughout Andorra. STA's network will use the Enablence Trident7 platform as an overbuild replacement for a legacy DSL network.

According to Jaume Salvat, director general and CEO of STA, "The new Trident7 network represents a huge leap forward from the copper network that it replaces. The wealth and depth of advanced services made possible by an all-data GE-PON network is unprecedented for our customers, and Enablence's ability to fully integrate their solution quickly into our network has been instrumental to our success."

In Taiwan, TOP's first deployment of an FTTx network will employ Enablence Technologies' Trident7 IEEE 802.3 GE-PON (EFM PON) standard Compact OLT (COLT) platform to offer triple-play services for residential and business customers in apartment and office buildings. The targeted service area will be more than 300 buildings, with 20-60 subscribers in each building. The carrier's total service areas cover more than 600,000 homes passed in the major cities of central Taiwan.

TOP selected the Trident7 after a field trial among multiple system vendors. Enablence says the Trident7 was selected for its system performance, network stability, and superior technical support. The systems vendor touted its ONT Port Extension capability, designed to provide cost-effective modular expansion of in-building networks, as a differentiating feature.

Enablence will work with TOP through its system-integration partner in Taiwan, Hiway Broadband Co., Ltd.
