AUGUST 24, 2009 -- LG-Nortel (search Lightwave for LG-Nortel), the joint venture of LG Electronics and Nortel, has signed a reseller agreement to distribute its WDM-PON Ethernet access offerings across the continent through Telamon.
A provider of telecom offerings to North American businesses, Telamon will distribute LG-Nortel's range of Ethernet access technologies to its existing customer base and into new accounts to meet growing demand for fiber-optic access equipment as carriers increasingly roll out fiber-to-the-business/home/base-station (FTTX) services to residential and business customers.
As an LG-Nortel channel partner, Telamon will deliver LG-Nortel products including its Ethernet access WDM-PON line, transponder (SpeedLight16 and TurboLight16) customer premises equipment, and Ethernet access service terminal splitter.
"Demand for FTTX services in North America is skyrocketing as customers expect more from their online lifestyles," says Gary L. Bloehs, president, Telamon. "LG-Nortel's powerful range of WDM-PON solutions will help our carrier customers meet those expectations with a fully featured, cost-effective, end-to-end solution that enables high-volume delivery of ultrafast Ethernet-class Internet services over fiber-optic networks."
"We welcome Telamon to our network of value-added partners, and look forward to engaging with their customers to facilitate the delivery of next-generation Internet services on a wide scale across North America," adds Peter MacKinnon, chairman, LG-Nortel. He concludes that the partnership will enable delivery of optical infrastructure technologies that allow operators to address higher-capacity wireless backhaul requirements and next-generation access for residential and business customers.
LG-Nortel claims its portfolio is one of the industry's first to use a WDM-PON architecture, which reportedly extends the cost and performance advantages of carrier-grade Ethernet to the first mile and overcomes traffic jams caused by bandwidth-hungry applications such as HD video-on-demand. WDM-PON makes it possible to divide a single optical fiber into multiple wavelengths, each capable of carrying the same bandwidth that previously required an entire fiber.
